Bus Fahrplan
The bus system is well developed with modern vehicles linking all the main towns and tourists resorts together. Mahon and Ciutadella ( Placa des Pins/Place de Menorca ) are hubs for their respective ends of the island. Outside of the main tourist season ( November to April ), the buses will run less frequently or not at all to coastal resorts. As mentioned elsewhere, to preserve the landscape there are no coastal routes so most journeys will involve going inland to one of the towns along the island's major road (ME-1) where you will also be able to change for other destinations. Major changing points are Alaior,Es Mercadal and Ferreries.
Note the correct local name for Mahon is (Mao) which will be shown on localtime tables,buses displays and signposts.

Prices tend to reflect the distance. You can only buy singles for the regular buses and if available a weekly can be bought from the driver.
Below is a time table for the Summer season (May-October). In low season( November-April) there can be less frequent services or none at all. Travel times are between 10 mins and 60/80mins. Mahon to Ciutadella with stops at Ferreries,Es Mercadal and Alaior is about 80mins and the direct bus No.1 taking 45mins.
Covering tops should be warn on all journeys,most services have modern air conditioned vehicles
Mahon(Mao) Bus Station
The main bus station in Mahon is modern, with a nice cafe area, toilets, Air Conditioned and close to town shops to nip in to get something lovely to eat. 3.50 Eur hot sandwiches in cafe are nice too.
Ciutadella Bus Station(s)
There are TWO City centre pick up/drop off points for Ciutadella depending on bus company providing the service. On the west coast services are run by Autocares Torres and use bus stop in Ciutadella at Placa des Pins, where there are lots of various style cafe Bar restaurants/childrens playground while you wait.
Placa des Pins for destinations: Ferry Terminal,Sa Caleta,Santandria,Cala Blanca,Cala en Bosch,Son Xoriguer,Los Delfines,Cala en Forcat,Cala en Blanes and Cala Morell
All other destinations are run by TMSA and arrive/depart from Placa Menorca which is about 350m from Placa de Pins stop - see map below
TMSA operates the other services and has it's bus station at Placa de Menorca

Menorca Holiday Tip
Mahon will mostly be written on timetables, signposts as Maó it's correct local name. Also posted in the local papers eg Ultima Hora Menorca, Menorca towards the back pages are most of the islands bus timetables. You will nearly always find a copy of this in a spanish cafe bar ( any day in season will do ) - make notes, please don't take paper as its there for all to read. If you are staying longer than a week take a trip on this good network and see some of the other resorts/towns first hand.
