Overview

Cala en Porter is a mixture of residential homes , Villas and Apartments with a few smaller sized hotels. It is set on the cliffs overlooking a stunning bay in a now protected nature area offering fabulous views of countryside, sands and turquoise waters. As the light fades the frogs in the nature reserve begin their soothing nightly chorus. Cala en Porter offers a variety of Bars and Restaurants to suit varying tastes. The local tourist authorities have invested in 2008 so there is now a new play area for children and the centre has a new plaza for residents and visitors enjoyment. Certainly while many of the Bars and Restaurants cater for uk tourist tastes, there are some less british places to visit. Can Bernat Restaurant just outside on the resort offers great food and an attractive terrace looking out onto the local countryside. La Paletta and Il Pulpo Restaurants are also recommended.

There is a resort mini train to bring you back up to the town from the beach, but at 4 € per person it could even make better sense to hire a car!( 4 people =16, twice a day = 32 euros ) -small cars can be had at that price per day!

Rated as one of the best beaches with tourist facilities on Menorca, especially for smaller children due it's perfect sands, gently sloping shallows, falling into crystal clear turquoise waters. And while this makes it very popular for children it's big enough for those who prefer to avoid the little ones to find their ideal spots too!

The beach can be reached on foot via steps, by car with free car parking under shade or a little resort train ( see picture ). At the beach front their are public toilets and a red cross/lifeguards post. There is a small selection of beachside bars and restaurants with decent offerings along the entire length of the promenade.

Yes many( unfit, rarely walk anywhere types) will complain about the steps to get back up from the beach, but they like everyone else adore the views from below and above. Some things in life are worth a little effort!

The pavement on the road down to the beach has a surface that will fight any buggy and is not always without a hole or two.

See and Do

Daytime Activities

The beach and water is the mainstay of the day time activities and there is usually a Volley Ball net set up on the beach to use. Pedalos with slides can be hired from the beach. There are childrens play parks at the beach and in the resort centre along with tennis courts for hire. Sailing is available in the nearby watersports centres of S'Algar or Fornells and golf in Son Parc is just 25 mins away. There is a new childrens play centre in the centre with a varierty of charged entertainments and small bar so the children can loose their energy on bouncy castles while mums and dads look on.

Walking and Cycling

Set in beautiful countryside there are walks starting just outside the resort along winding walled tracks or along a path to Cales Coves. Close to Cala D'en Porter are a lot of open air prehistoric sites ( Torralba den Salort ), with undeground caves( So no Casana ) which give you a real sense of life all those years ago.

Getting About

Buses run during the season about seven per day to Mahon monday to saturday ( via Sant Climent). Fares are 1.60 € one way for the 25' journey. First bus 10:00 , last Bus 20:00. Last bus back from Mahon at 20:20.

Taxi from the airport should be around 17 € one way and take 15-20 minutes

Nightime Entertainment

Out on the edge of the bay entrance is Covas Den Xorio (see below) one the island most spectacular dance locations( no noise though). In town there are a variety of Bars and Restaurants with differing clientel both toursist & non tourist, young and old. The Flava bar ( www.flavabarmenorca.com ) is trying to introduce some better music events into the resort centre and is worth a look.

Live tribute acts tour the island and are on stage at Sa Paisa- Free to watch if you buy a drink and some can be very entertaining.

A walk down to the beach where the frogs perform their nightly chorus is a very relaxing change.

Cova d´en Xoroi liegt im großen spektakulären natürlichen Höhlen rund 25m über dem Meer am Eingang zur Bucht von Cala en Porter. Werfen Sie einen Blick auf unsere Video unten für ein Gefühl von diesem magischen Ort.

Zweimal gut! Zweifellos ist Xoroi das hochst dramatische Nachtlokal auf der Insel. Hoch angesetzt, buchstäblich in den Felsen über dem Meer ist Xoroi Tagsüber eine atmosphärische Cafe-Bar mit herrlichem Meerblick.

Ab 19:00 Uhr ist die Musik beruhigend Ambient-Sounds - um so schöne den Sonnenuntergang zu staunen. Nach 23:00 bis 05:00 ist Xoroi eine Disco mit ungewöhnliche Hölen und super Atmosphäre. Am Wochenende mit bekannten Gast-DJs aus Ibiza und UK. Tagsüber gibt es einen Eintrittspreis, der einen Gutschein für ein Getränk enthält-einfach hingehen!

Öffnungszeiten: 11:30 bis zum Morgengrauen. Täglich von Mai bis Oktober. Außerhalb dieser Monaten nur am Wochenende.

Calas Covas

Ein schöner malerischer Ort. Begünstigt durch den Yachten und Träumer. Am bestem besucht man Calas Covas am frühen Morgen und am Abend, wenn das Licht das beste aus der Landschaft herausholt. Eine alte Begräbnisstätte und war in der Tat die ersten anerkannten Hafen von Menorca in der Römerzeit. Cala Covas erreicht man von Cala en Porter zu Fuß oder mit das Auto bei Son Vitamina parken und zu Fuß weiter (ca. 30 Gehminuten.)

Alaior ( Alayor )

Shoppen, Bummeln und Schlemmen, das kann man hier wunderbar. Dies ist eine tolle Stadt einfach früh oder spät abends wenn die Hitze der Sonne nicht da ist zu besuchen. Die "Dritte" Hauptstadt der Insel und ein Kulturzentrum. Die Altstadt ist sehr schön und macht eine große abwechselung zum Strand, mit einer guten Mischung von kleinen Geschäften, Cafés, Bars und Restaurants. Und einige super ( auch hausgemacht) Eiscafes! Kinderspielplatz liegt auf dem hübschen Dorfplatz (neben dem Eis Cafes!). Alaior hat auch einen Abendmarkt.

Located on the main road (ME-12) from Mahon to Cala en Porter is well worth a visit if you are in the area. "Famous" for Casino Bar-Restaurant (some of the best tasting/value) Menu del Dias on the island. Great Music nights: Tuesday evening jazz in backrooms of the Casino, and clasical / improvisation at the lovely converted (now Tapas Bar ) Farmhouse Musupta Cusi. Both places are next to each other. Last shop on the right is a traditional bakers. Experience real bread made in real wood fired ovens in front of your eyes.

If you are an independent traveller and waiting to catch a flight then come here for for final drinks and meals in a more personal environment. Airport is just 5 mins drive away. 6 am cafes too!

Es Castell - ist eine wunderbare Stadt mit einem großartigen mischung aus kleine Läden, Cafes, Bars, Restaurants und Clubs für jeden Geschmack, Preisklassen und Stilen.
